Sumner Vision recommends optomap retinal imaging as part of your comprehensive eye exam.

We are thrilled to provide optomap to our patients in Sumner Vision! By adding optomap to your comprehensive eye exam, you are facilitating better eye health for you and your loved ones.

What is optomap Retinal Imaging?

Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain. While eye exams generally include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the retina is critical to verify that your eye is healthy. Early detection means successful treatments can be administered and reduces the risk to your sight and health.

Getting an optomap image is fast, painless, and comfortable. Nothing touches your eye at any time. It is suitable for the whole family. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time (like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken. The image capture takes less than half a second and you can view it with your eye care provider.

optomap is a cutting-edge retinal imaging technology that provides a 200-degree view of the retina and unlike traditional eye exams, where your doctor can only view a small portion of the retina at a time, this larger, single-capture view enables your eye care professional to detect, diagnose, and treat eye conditions and diseases at the earliest stages.

What are the Benefits of optomap Imaging?

optomap imaging technology is setting a new standard for preventive eye health measures.

Early Detection of Eye Conditions

With its expansive view, optomap imaging can identify signs of eye diseases such as nevi "eye freckles", diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration more easily.

Part of your Medical Health Record

Unlike traditional retinal exams, optomap can be saved to your medical record for future comparisons.

Protection even with no visual complaints

Recent studies have shown that doctors who use optomap imaging, are seeing retinal pathology 97% of the time in patients who have no vision complaints.

4 Reasons to Add optomap to Your Comprehensive Eye Exam

  • Comprehensive Health Insights

Beyond eye health, this type of imaging can reveal indicators of systemic diseases, including potential risks for stroke and cardiovascular disease, offering a window into your overall well-being.

  • Efficiency and Comfort

The eye exam is quick, painless, and comfortable for patients of all ages. optomap is complementary to dilation, and your eye care provider will determine if you require both.

  • A Foundation for Preventative Care

The optomap retinal imaging device is crucial in preventative health care by facilitating early detection of both ocular and systemic conditions. Helping to safeguard not just your vision but your overall eye health.

  • A Key Component of Comprehensive Eye Care

Incorporating the optomap device into our practice is part of our commitment to providing our patients with the highest standard of eye care. This technology complements our range of services, from routine eye exams to more in-depth care, ensuring you receive a thorough and accurate eye health assessment.

Getting your eyes checked regularly is important for maintaining good eye health. optomap imaging can help detect potential eye problems early on and give you a more informed understanding of your eye health. So, whether you're experiencing symptoms or just due for your regular eye checkup, make an appointment for the optomap eye exam.

My wife had an incredibly frustrating experience here trying to get a simple pair of contact lenses.... After multiple failed attempts to get her prescription right — despite her clearly explaining that the lenses were not working — the staff seemed more interested in insisting that their numbers were correct rather than actually listening to the patient. Instead of acknowledging the issue or offering real solutions, they resorted to gaslighting her by claiming that her vision was perfectly fine at 20/20 — even though she could clearly tell her vision was off and uncomfortable. It felt dismissive, unprofessional, and honestly insulting to be told that what she was experiencing wasn’t real. We expected care and accuracy — not attitude and deflection. We will definitely be taking our business elsewhere and recommend others think twice before trusting this place with their vision needs. Edit: After posting this review, Dr. Sumner personally reached out to us and took the time to make things right. We genuinely appreciate that they cared enough to follow up and resolve the situation. It’s clear that they value their patients and are willing to correct mistakes when they happen. That effort meant a lot to us.

Dr. Meyette is a true gem of an optometrist. During my visit he was friendly, thorough, and he expla... ined every aspect of my vision and overall eye health in a way that was clearly understandable. I had a very pleasant experience with him and with everyone I interacted with in the office. I definitely recommend Sumner Vision.
